Dispatchable power for a hydrogen future

A phased model that delivers dispatchable power now, with the hydrogen infrastructure to decarbonise it built in.

Our approach

We build what the system needs now, while developing the hydrogen infrastructure to decarbonise it.

Icon blue

Generation

Dual-fuel power stations deliver dispatchable power from day one, replacing ageing thermal plant due to retire in the mid-2030s.

Icon green

Electrolysers

When renewable generation exceeds demand, co-located electrolysers use surplus electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Storage

The hydrogen is held in solution-mined underground salt caverns, each as large as St Paul’s Cathedral, ready to fuel our power stations when needed.

How it works

Together, these turn surplus renewable power into low-carbon dispatchable power when the grid needs it most.

Existing GB electricity transmission system Shared Grid Connection H2-LDES 1. Grid-scale electrolyser Electrolyser purchases excess renewable electricity at low wholesale prices. 3. Hydrogen-fired gas turbine Generates low carbon power when renewable generation is low & demand is high 2. Geological storage – solution-mined salt caverns Excess renewable electricity is used to produce green hydrogen and sent to underground storage Our projects
